Being there

A scenic tour about belonging

Museum Rietberg, Kantonsschule Wiedikon, Sekundarschule Milchbuck, Sekundarschule Liguster, Zürich (CH)

Who belongs, who doesn't – and who decides? In the project "Being there", students explored the eponymous photo series by artists Omar Victor Diop and Lee Shulman. The work makes injustice visible, while at the same time showing the courage to resist, and turns the gaze back on us as viewers. Where is my place?

In their own artistic works, the students engage with visibility, exclusion, and their place in society. Using photographic collages and poetic texts, they distilled the collective process into an artistic audio-visual walk, which they present as a scenic tour through the exhibition.
