Can art change the world? Can it let us break down our own boundaries? Can art connect and empower people? We believe «Yes! It can!». Whether it's theater, dance, film, music, visual arts, or literature, the arts at Blickfelder Festival are accessible from childhood and adolescence. How do we do that? Through international productions that we show in various cultural venues across the city of Zurich. Through projects by cultural practitioners and school classes and through a diverse cultural program open to public engagement at the festival center. From 1992 until 2020 the department of School+Culture Zürich was responsible for the festival organization. Since then the association Festival für ein junges Publikum Zürich has taken over the lead in planning and executing the Blickfelder Festival.

"O!" comes without being asked, creeps in, and stretches out. "O!" makes the breath falter at the sight of the wolf. "O!" is inclusion but also exclusion. "O!" is fascination, as if the furniture around us were bending. "O!" is the ball and the egg. "O!" is both square and round. Is "O!" the yellow balloon that transports us back to our magical dreams like bubbles? After all, "O!" does not make itself small. In fact, "O!" can be many things. We may never get rid of "O!".
This manifesto explains our values and intentions and acts as the basis of the Blickfelder Festival.
We want to organize ourselves in such a way that people in different life situations and realities can participate in our festival. We confront our own ways of thinking and organizational structures and break down barriers of accessibility.
We connect cultural professionals with cultural businesses and schools. We are constantly looking for new partnerships and forms of collaboration. To further develop the festival, we involve external people in these processes.
We promote the arts and their presence from childhood to adolescence. We unite the most diverse art forms and create a platform for productions with social relevance.
We take care to use resources sparingly and set long-term goals. We ensure fair working conditions, social benefits, transparent wages, and take care of each other.
We understand the world as sensual and meaningful. We enable spaces for experiences. Projects with participatory, artistic approaches between cultural practictioners and school classes characterize our festival.
