About Us

Can art change the world? Can it let us break down our own boundaries? Can art connect and empower people? We believe «Yes! It can!». Whether it's theater, dance, film, music, visual arts, or literature, the arts at Blickfelder Festival are accessible from childhood and adolescence. How do we do that? Through international productions that we show in various cultural venues across the city of Zurich. Through projects by cultural practitioners and school classes and through a diverse cultural program open to public engagement at the festival center. From 1992 until 2020 the department of School+Culture Zürich was responsible for the festival organization. Since then the association Festival für ein junges Publikum Zürich has taken over the lead in planning and executing the Blickfelder Festival.

Züri Crossplay

Crossing, questioning and appropriating Zurich? “Züri Crossplay” is a process-oriented platform for ideas in progress and in public space of the city of Zurich. Selected people who have applied through an open call can develop and test their ideas during the festival. Thereby there is the possibility for further development and realization of the ideas for the next festival edition. Topics such as accessibility for, or the perspectives of children and young people, as well as public space, are to be significantly incorporated into the development of ideas. "Züri Crossplay" 2022 consists of Antonio Semeraro, Roberta Ceginskaite and the artist duo Frau Rot & Frau Blau (Michèle Wächter und Isabel Vogel).

What does Crossplay mean? Crossplay is a gaming term that stands for cross-platform gaming. It is called “crossplay” if players play the same game on different consoles.

Motto

"O!" comes without being asked, creeps in, and stretches out. "O!" makes the breath falter at the sight of the wolf. "O!" is inclusion but also exclusion. "O!" is fascination, as if the furniture around us were bending. "O!" is the ball, the egg and the yellow balloon that transports us back to our magical dreams like bubbles. After all, "O!" does not make itself small. In fact, "O!" can be many things.

Manifesto

This manifesto explains our values and intentions and acts as the basis of the Blickfelder Festival.

Aesthetic

We understand the world as sensual and meaningful. We promote the arts and their presence from childhood to adolescence. We unite diverse art forms and create a platform for productions with relevance to current events.

Non-discriminatory

We want to organize ourselves in such a way that people in different life situations and realities can participate in our festival. We confront our own ways of thinking and organizational structures and break down barriers of accessibility.

Collaborative

We connect cultural professionals with cultural businesses and schools. We are constantly looking for new partnerships and forms of collaboration. To further develop the festival, we involve external people in these processes.

Sustainable

We take care to use resources sparingly and set long-term goals. We ensure fair working conditions, social benefits, transparent wages, and take care of each other.

Process-oriented

We enable spaces for experiences. Projects with participatory, artistic approaches between cultural practictioners and school classes characterize our festival.
